What It Takes To Be A Good Teacher

Ask a group of teachers what makes a good teacher and you might expect answers like subject knowledge, classroom management or good results.

At Trinity, the answer begins somewhere else: patience, flexibility and care.

Every child who walks into a classroom brings more than a schoolbag. They bring emotions, experiences, fears, hopes and a unique capacity to learn. Sometimes teaching means recognising what is happening beneath the surface while still finding a way to help a learner move forward.

Because there will always be a child who struggles with something that others grasp quickly. At TCC, the response is not, “He can’t do it.” It is, “How can I help him get there?”

Success does not always look the same for every child. Sometimes it is the learner who once lacked confidence finally saying, “I can do this.” Sometimes it is the child who keeps trying. Sometimes it is the quiet realisation that a learner has not only understood something but has developed the confidence and resilience to keep learning.

A teacher who does not give up on a learner who is not giving up—that is success.

But good teachers also need support.
